Ok all you tube Mom's. As you all know V has his new tube site, finally, and all has been well.
Except for the elongated stay in the hospital, and the TWO.. yes, two times that it's been PULLED OUT ALREADY!!
Thank goodness this stoma seems pretty resilient, but we do seem to have one very prominent issue. One that we just can't seem to get under control.
... granulation tissue. ick.
It's been a couple of years since our last G tube adventure and he did have quite a bit of granulation tissue with that go-around but eventually we got it under control.
Now if I could just remember how we did it.
His tissue is pretty bad right now, something like an enormous flesh donut. Mmm.. good stuff.
For a week now we've been religious with the steroid cream. I don't want to over do it though because too much steroid cream can actually thin the skin.
Our other course of action has been silver nitrate. We've done that three times now and still nothing.
I'm beginning to think this stuff feeds off my frustration. It's just getting bigger.
Has anyone out there found the magic cure by any chance???

Well magic no but a few ideas.Zoey has been so fortunate to really have very limited issues but here are a few of the things we have tried or have had others suggest:Ilex,Calmoseptine and Desitin. The first two can be found as behind the counter but no prescription needed,at your pharmacy.Desitin, the original, not the creamy ... you know where to get that. The other thing is that sometimes having a 2x2 split gauze as barrier between the site and the button seems to help but if you go the Ilex route don't use gauze as it adheres TOO much to the gauze and gives you a whole other set of issues.Hope this helps.Let me know if you have any other questions.Love from Zoey.
ReplyDeleteOh the other thing ... Zoey LIVES with onesies on under her shirts ... we avoid the chance of a pull out all together.Problem is ... will they make onesies big enough when she is say ... 10!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, that stuff is a monster...I've heard good things about polymem http://www.metromedicalonline.com/woundcare--foam-dressings.html
ReplyDeleteand it's what we used initially. (We don't use anything currently). We also still do a weekly dose of diluted eucalyptus oil (10 drops of oil in 1 oz of water). I think you're a bit beyond holistic medicine at this point, though...unless, by holistic, you mean "touched and healed by Jesus himself".
Poor, poor, stinkbug.
I use tea tree oil. I got that idea from a german forum for parents of "special kids", so many of the parents there swear by it.
ReplyDeleteI have not had big problems with granulation tissue so far, but whenever I see something coming up, I use Q-tips that I moisten with water and put a few drops of tea tree oil on the wet Q-tips and dab it onto the granulation tissue. It does burn a bit, but not for long.
